This week we welcomed Cliff to the family! Everyone is doing well but we’re TIRED and I think my pop culture consumption for the next month or two may be a bit sidelined by over Instagraming my puppy! the good news is Cliff joining the family is a great excuse to binge Cheers on Netflix. Here’s what pop culture I consumed before Cliff arrived this month…
Reading
I read a book in two days this month and it was amazing! My Sister, the Serial Killer is a super fun and fast read. I appreciated the twists and turns and unique writing style.
I picked up the latest Lianne Moriarty, Nine Perfect Strangers, a few months ago and finally started reading it after a friend encouraged me to keep going (the first chapter is really random). Now that I’m in to it I’m really enjoying it. I love how her characters connect…
I also caught up on my giant comic book stack a couple weeks ago. I still love The Walking Dead and this latest story arc was really well done even if a MAJOR character dies. They did a great job.
Listening
The David Letterman interview on WTF was wonderful. I’ve loved Dave my whole life (thanks to my dad) so this was a go to podcast interview and it didn’t disappoint.
The Daily did a week of episodes from Europe talking about the rise of nationalism using the EU Parliament elections as background. It was FASCINATING. The rise of Millennials who are anti-immigration is frightening.
I’ve been enjoying Chelsea Handler‘s podcast – the story about her Best Friend Mary and a water bottle is something I can’t un-hear. And her conversation with her psychiatrist is also fantastic. On the other end of the spectrum This Land is a really well done, although heart wrenching, story of Native Americans in Oklahoma and a Supreme Court case that should be decided on this week.
Watching
The Ellen Degeneres episode of Letterman’s My Next Guest… was really wonderful. I’ve always liked Ellen but didn’t know half her story.
I discovered the final season of Unreal on Hulu recently and it was just as over the top ridiculous as every other season. A great summer escape show.
I’m really liking this season of The Handmaid’s Tale. The relationship between Serena and June is great and Emily’s escape was fascinating.
I am LOVING the last half of this final season of Jane the Virgin. I don’t want this show to end but I am hopeful it will be all I want it to be.
I’m caught up on Big Little Lies and while I didn’t think the show needed a second season, it has been fun to watch Meryl Streep this season…
