We are definitely into the fall transition season. And I’m on board. While I love sitting outside on my patio with a good book and a delicious beverage, cozying up on the couch with Hank to watch TV while it’s raining outside is one of my favorite past times. So obviously, I’m excited for the start of fall TV, let’s get to it…
Watching
What am I watching? A LOT of stuff is on the DVR and coming up soon. Masters of Sex and The Bridge finish up their seasons in the next couple of weeks, and I’m looking forward to them wrapping up, but they are two of my favorite shows on TV these days.
If you didn’t watch Married or You’re the Worst on FX, you missed two of summers surprise comedy hits. I loved them both so very much and can’t wait for them to return next summer.
This week I’ve been trying to keep up on the new shows, black-ish was better than expected, but Red Band Society wasn’t great enough to stick with (Octavia Spencer deserves a better quality role than sassy black woman if you ask me). Still on my DVR is Gotham, I know, but I wanted to be able to really enjoy it…I also didn’t get to How to Get Away with Murder yet, but will this weekend. The return of Nashville and Scandal were both as soapy as I wanted them to be and Modern Family did not disappoint either!
Homeland and The Walking Dead arrive in October and I couldn’t be more excited for both of them!
Reading
I finally caught up with my comics on the patio last weekend. Outkast, the new Robert Kirkman comic is really great. I also love and am all caught up on The Walking Dead, which I’m really liking this new arc if I haven’t mentioned that before. Ms Marvel continues to be great, and so does Lazarus. The Illegitimates finished its first arc and fizzled out if you ask me. We’ll see.
On my short list: Lumberjanes. My Beer Geek Girl friends keep telling me how great it is, so hopefully I get to it this fall!
I also read Big Little Lies From Lianne Moriarty earlier this month. It’s definitely chic-lit but enough of a mystery for some quick reading and it takes place in Australia, so I can’t complain!
Listening
I am a big U2 fan and would have gladly paid for their new album, but if iTunes wants to give it to me for free I’ll take it! it’s a great album and I continue to enjoy it.
Earlier this week I picked up tickets to see Stevie Wonder when he comes to Seattle in December, so I have him on replay a lot lately.
And thanks to Jimmy Fallon I can’t get this song out of my head…
One more thing if you made it this far…my very favorite pop culture blogger was laid off earlier this month. Whitney Matheson who started Pop Candy at USA Today is a great pop culture reporter and is responsible for a lot of the pop culture I consume, and many of the comic books on my shelf, and shows on my DVR. I’m bummed that (as Stephen Colbert says) the USA Today-holes laid her off, but I’m excited to see where she lands! Until then, there’s a pop culture void in my life that I’m having a hard time filling elsewhere!
What pop culture are you excited about this fall and where do you get your pop culture fix these days?
