So You Want to Write a Book?

05.30.2012 by Elizabeth // Leave a Comment

I am amazed at how many people have a book idea that they’ve been dreaming of for years. And while I can help you market that book and launch it when your book is ready, I can’t help you write it.

So, I was excited to learn that Karen Lynn Maher of LegacyONE Authors is hosting an upcoming ExpertBook ™ Planning Retreat. A full day retreat to create a PLAN to write your book!

Karen knows what she’s doing and has helped a variety of people from around the country write the book they’ve always dreamed of. If you have a book “in you” this is a great opportunity to start off the second half of 2012 with a plan!

Saturday, June 23rd

9 AM to 3 PM

Kirkland, WA

$147 includes lunch, 30 minute follow up consultation and leave the day with a plan for getting your book written and published!

The Social Media Excuse

05.23.2012 by Elizabeth // Leave a Comment

Hank & Pippin
Face to Face Social Networking

Two times in three days I have had a conversation with someone about the creepy way people act around you when they mostly know you through social media.

I have a lot of great stories about how social media is awesome. It’s gotten me new business, it’s lead to new friendships, media opportunities and event tips on new cool restaurants that I now love.

However, the conversation I have had lately is “why do people think they know you if they only ever “talk”, or even just follow, you on social media?”

There are many reasons I’m not on Facebook, but as I’ve said before, if I want to know what’s going on with you, or see pictures of your baby, I’ll ask. Social Media is being used as an excuse to not talk to each other and it’s not okay.

If you want to have a relationship with me, then pick up the phone and call me, or send me an email and check in with me. We’re all vain and selfish people. The only news you’re going to get about someone is the good stuff. Or the “pity me” stuff. Start paying attention to this.

No one ever says “wow I really screwed up at work today and my boss SHOULD have yelled at me for it.” Instead they say “Boss is in a fowl mood and taking it out on me, what a jerk.”

Social media is only going to give you a small one sided glimpse as to what’s going on in someone’s life. If you really want to know what’s going on with them, ASK.

Measuring Your Online Presence

05.21.2012 by Elizabeth // Leave a Comment

Every day there’s a new “you have to try this” tool on the internet to tell you just how awesome you are, how awesome your business is, and all the places you’re failing. Its’ easy to get caught up in tweets and blog posts and email blasts telling you that with “two clicks you can be at the top of the rankings.”

When a client of mine sent me a link to a new product from Microsoft a month or so ago, I was a little skeptical, but since they wanted to try it, I figured I should too. And I’ve been surprised at how easy and straightforward it is. And let me say up front, this is just me liking something, no one’s paying me to tell you about it!

Brandify is a handy free tool that that measures your online appearance. You login with an existing social media account and it creates a list of recommendations for ways you can improve your online presence. This is a great product and one that I recommend to anyone who is look for a free and straightforward solution to figure out what you’re missing with your online presence. And there’s no pressure, I try to do one recommendation a week or so. Some of them take time, and others take just a few clicks.

Next time your marketing to do list seems daunting, setup a Brandify Account and see how easy it is to check some of those seemingly frustrating tasks off your list!
