FRIDAY: Take Your Dog to Work Day!

The Friday Afternoon "let's be done working now" look
The Friday Afternoon “let’s be done working now” look

Just a reminder that Friday (tomorrow) is Take Your Dog To Work Day. At Yellow Dog Consulting, every day is Take Your Dog to Work Day. Make sure to double check with your boss that it’s OK to bring your pup in for the day. And if it’s not, quit on the spot.

Okay, don’t. If you are lucky enough to participate make sure to take frequent potty breaks (both you and your dog) and bring a couple of treats, to share with other dogs, and to keep him occupied while you pretend to work. And if your dog hasn’t experience elevators, make sure you have a back up plan. 6 floors is a long way to walk with Hank (I mean, any dog…) Have a fun time and don’t forget to take lots of pictures!

Woof!

Let’s be Realistic About…

06.20.2012 by Elizabeth // Leave a Comment

In no way shape or form am I someone who should be giving you blogging tips. I’m still figuring it out, my stream of conscious isn’t everyone’s flavor and hey, that’s fine.

Today I was meeting with a client and he wants to start a blog on his website. Seeing as how the website’s current blog is a canned piece that he doesn’t write, and his tumblr account has two posts from a year ago I asked him for one thing:

Write blog posts for a month.

Just try writing a blog. Save the posts as word docs and just write when you have time. This way if you decide you like it, you have a back stock for those busy weeks. And if after a month you’ve written three posts, you know that maybe blogging isn’t the right fit for you.

And that’s OK. You don’t have to do everything, and if you do decide that your website needs a blog and you aren’t going to be the one to write it, that’s fine. There are a lot of great copywriters and freelance writers who will write your blog in your voice way better (and consistently) than you do.

What do you WANT to do but are afraid won’t work out? Take a month to practice and see how it goes. You might be surprised what you learn!

Headshots: Time for a refresh!

06.14.2012 by Elizabeth // Leave a Comment

I was looking at my latest headshot the other day and thinking that it might be time for a new headshot.  I’ve had Yellow Dog Consulting for a year now and I need a headshot that reflects my brand. I was so excited when I found out that my dear friend and photographer Dan Schlatter is in town through the end of July and offering a headshot special for just $99!

If it’s time for a new headshot this is a great time to do it, inside, outside, with the dog, by yourself. If the headshot on your LinkedIn page has someone else cut out of it, it’s time for a new headshot. Professional headshots don’t have to be a big stress event, and Dan does a fantastic job!

Let me know if you need a headshot and we can coordinate a group to do this together, or contact Dan directly and he’ll hook you up!
