Even the bears want to swim!
Even the bears want to swim!

August is a great excuse to skip out of work early, day drink and make excuses for your business being slow. BUT, fear not, there are is business to be had for those who want it! Here’s a few great networking events this month, AND a Headshot special you NEED to take advantage of!

Friday, August 9th
NWEN Breakfast Buzz

You know how much I love NWEN breakfasts. Great networking, great people, great inspiration. If you are a start up, NWEN is the place to be! This month is NWEN Idol where startups get to pitch their idea to a loving crowd. It’s always a fun time!

Friday, August 9th
Dog Park Networking!

Come one, come all, bring your pup or come without one, it’s OK. Join Hank & me for a Friday morning swim (okay, he swims, I don’t) at Luther Burbank Off Leash. Let me know if you’re coming!

Thursday, August 15th
eWomen Network Luncheon

As most of you know I’ve been a big fan of eWomenNetwork for a LONG time and the speakers scheduled in 2013 do not look to disappoint! If you can’t join the luncheon but want to check out eWomen let me know, they have smaller events throughout the month.

Monday, August 19th
Tara Gimmer Headshot Day!

My good friend Tara does AMAZING headshots. And if your LinkedIn profile or social media avatar is a picture of you with a beer in your hand, you need a headshot. Tara will hook you up for just $99!

Don’t be Weird!

07.16.2013 by Elizabeth // Leave a Comment

stack of credit cards (isolated on white)I was at a networking event this morning and afterwards was talking with a good friend of mine, who worked for the host of the event. A woman came over and took our picture, but she wasn’t related to the organization. She  never introduced herself, or asked our names. As we were starting to leave, she came over and said she’d love to connect and do I have a card.

What I SHOULD Have done was say NO, I forgot them.

What I DID do though was say yes and give her one. At this point, she has STILL not asked my name or what I do. I finally asked what she did, and she said full service marketing, so I replied with, “so do I.” “oh that’s great, I’m talking with some other folks about doing a tradeshow if you’d be interested.” “oh good luck with that, sounds interesting.” (friend chimes in) “yeah, done those, good luck!”

We awkwardly walk away, and she’s STILL never asked our names.

And guess what I had in my inbox at the end of the day? a LinkedIn invite. Someone needs a lesson on polite etiquette and networking techniques!

Don’t be weird. People like to talk about themselves. What’s your name? What do you do? Who’s a good client for you? Where do you live? How was your holiday weekend? How long have you been/owned the company?

There are a lot of questions you can ask besides “can I have your business card.”

Just a reminder.

Networking with Yellow Dog in July!

07.01.2013 by Elizabeth // Leave a Comment

IMG_3580July is my favorite month of the year, yes, it’s my Birthday Month! And with the unofficial start of summer on July 5th, it’s a great reason to get out and network! Here’s a few events happening throughout the month, I hope to see you there!

Tuesday, July 9th
BizDev Seminar Series: Google+ – Growth, Value, and Clearing up the Confusion

Here’s a topic I just don’t know enough about. So when I saw PSBJ was hosting a workshop on it, I jumped at the chance.

Friday, July 12th
NWEN Breakfast Buzz

You know how much I love NWEN breakfasts. Great networking, great people, great inspiration. If you are a start up, NWEN is the place to be! I don’t usually go into Seattle for the breakfasts (I’m a lazy eastsider who hates traffic) BUT I do love my Full Circle Farm box that’s delivered each week, and this story sounds pretty great!

Thursday, July 18th
eWomen Network Luncheon

As most of you know I’ve been a big fan of eWomenNetwork for a LONG time and the speakers scheduled in 2013 do not look to disappoint! If you can’t join the luncheon but want to check out eWomen let me know, they have smaller events throughout the month.

Monday, July 22nd
My Birthday!

While some people don’t like getting older, I’m okay with it. And I love my birthday. I’ll be skipping out on work for the day to hangout with friends and family and Hank of course!
