Connect with Yellow Dog Consulting in June!

06.01.2012 by Elizabeth // Leave a Comment

Where did the time go?

It’s the first of the month which means it’s time to check out your networking calendar and see where you need to be. If you haven’t been out networking lately I encourage you to pick ONE networking event in June that you can commit to. And if it’s one of these events, please let me know & I’ll keep my eye out for you!

Friday, June 8th

NWEN Breakfast Buzz

NWEN is one of my favorite organizations; the breakfast buzz is a great opportunity to network with entrepreneurs and service providers around the Puget Sound. Plus, the breakfast rotates between Seattle & Bellevue – this month it’s in Bellevue! Hooray! If you aren’t a member and want to check out NWEN let me know!

Wednesday, June 13th

NWEN Pub Night

Pub night – I don’t only attend, I’m also the committee chair (surprise, surprise)! Come network with other entrepreneurs and hear 5 brave start-ups pitch their idea to a well imbibed crowd!

Thursday, June 21st

eWomen Network

This is a fantastic networking event each month and THE place to learn how to most effectively network I believe. While 100 women might sound overwhelming, and it is, it’s one of the most welcoming and inviting networking groups I’ve ever seen. This month the luncheons are moving to Salty’s on Alki!

eWomen also hosts smaller introductiory sessions called Strategic Business Introductions. They’re free for guests, let me know if you’re interested!

Thursday, June 21st

Geekwire Summer Bash

I love the team at Geekwire, and they always throw great events. The Ping Pong Tournament is not one to be missed! Let me know if you’re attending!

Thursday, June 28

PSBJ Biz Mix- Social Media Networking Event

Sure PSBJ paid me for years to tell you how great their events are. And the truth is, they really are great events! The low-key networking heavy Biz Mix at The Paramount Theater is going to be a great event, with a social media focus, lots of my favorite things!

Friday, June 29th 10 AM

Dog Park Networking

This month let’s go back to Marymoor. Redmond is rarely the most convenient place to get to on a Friday, BUT after all the swimming and chasing after tennis balls, Hank needs a bath, and the best dog wash in the Puget Sound is at Marymoor – so let’s go!

So You Want to Write a Book?

05.30.2012 by Elizabeth // Leave a Comment

I am amazed at how many people have a book idea that they’ve been dreaming of for years. And while I can help you market that book and launch it when your book is ready, I can’t help you write it.

So, I was excited to learn that Karen Lynn Maher of LegacyONE Authors is hosting an upcoming ExpertBook ™ Planning Retreat. A full day retreat to create a PLAN to write your book!

Karen knows what she’s doing and has helped a variety of people from around the country write the book they’ve always dreamed of. If you have a book “in you” this is a great opportunity to start off the second half of 2012 with a plan!

Saturday, June 23rd

9 AM to 3 PM

Kirkland, WA

$147 includes lunch, 30 minute follow up consultation and leave the day with a plan for getting your book written and published!

The Social Media Excuse

05.23.2012 by Elizabeth // Leave a Comment

Hank & Pippin
Face to Face Social Networking

Two times in three days I have had a conversation with someone about the creepy way people act around you when they mostly know you through social media.

I have a lot of great stories about how social media is awesome. It’s gotten me new business, it’s lead to new friendships, media opportunities and event tips on new cool restaurants that I now love.

However, the conversation I have had lately is “why do people think they know you if they only ever “talk”, or even just follow, you on social media?”

There are many reasons I’m not on Facebook, but as I’ve said before, if I want to know what’s going on with you, or see pictures of your baby, I’ll ask. Social Media is being used as an excuse to not talk to each other and it’s not okay.

If you want to have a relationship with me, then pick up the phone and call me, or send me an email and check in with me. We’re all vain and selfish people. The only news you’re going to get about someone is the good stuff. Or the “pity me” stuff. Start paying attention to this.

No one ever says “wow I really screwed up at work today and my boss SHOULD have yelled at me for it.” Instead they say “Boss is in a fowl mood and taking it out on me, what a jerk.”

Social media is only going to give you a small one sided glimpse as to what’s going on in someone’s life. If you really want to know what’s going on with them, ASK.
