Newsletter Signups: Make Them Do It

08.11.2015 by Elizabeth // Leave a Comment

farmers markets are awesomeI was at the Farmers Market yesterday and at one of the booth’s (okay it was a distillery) they had a newsletter sign-up form. They were good and I decided to sign up. As I glanced at the page I knew that half these people would never see the email since they had such chicken scratch for handwriting (as we often do these days…)

I asked the vendor if they use MailChimp for their newsletter system, and he wasn’t sure. I mentioned there’s a sweet app that you would save them time on their end. He said after an event they send the list to someone to decipher and upload it.

Here’s the deal – if you want people to sign up for your newsletter list, make it easy for them AND you. The majority of people are comfortable typing their name and email address into a tablet these days (and are they your target market if they can’t?). Make it easy on yourself, look like a technologically savvy business and save time and bounces by having newsletter sign ups handle themselves.

When I’m at an event and have a marketing table where I’m collecting email addresses, I often do a business card drawing. That way the email is legible. If you’re at an event where you have a marketing booth, make it easy on yourself in the long run! Do a drawing or have a download/something for signing up. Is your tablet going to get stolen? No. And if it does, that’s what your business insurance is for right?

Welcome to the Family!

05.14.2015 by Elizabeth // Leave a Comment

Godfather welcomes youI went to the dentist last week. He’s a really nice guy, I met his wife at a networking event and since I knew we lived in the same town I asked who her dentist was because I needed one. She said her husband, so I made sure he took my insurance and bam, just that easy, just that quick!

The initial appointment went well, I have great teeth evidently. (#humblebrag) A couple days later I got something in the mail. It was a hand written thank you note from the doctor (and it’s in authentic crappy doctor handwriting, no secretary typed this up for him!) and said:

Welcome to our family of fine patients! I enjoyed meeting you.

Thank you for having the confidence in us to treat your dental needs. We look forward to your next visit.

Sincerely,

Your awesome new dentist

Okay it didn’t say that last line. BUT, I did feel very welcomed and liked this thank you note! How often do you welcome or thank your clients? How often do you need to? I know I’m not nearly as good at this as I should be. When is the right time to welcome or thank your clients? Early and often is the answer. And it’s something I need to work on. What about you?

College Kids are More Polite Than You

04.21.2015 by Elizabeth // Leave a Comment

IMG_9108This past weekend we had 4 college students stay at our house. They were kids from the debate team who were at a conference near by. As we discovered how close they’d be I invited them to stay at our place. We had a GREAT time. They fell in love with Hank (obviously) and we were up way to late talking and discussing post-grad life. I’m excited for what’s in store for them!

When they left on Sunday they left us a thank you note that they’d all written notes in. They are the GREATEST kids. We’ve had a revolving door of guests since we moved to Oregon, and it’s been awesome. Mostly family and a few friends so far. And the first thank you note we received was from our youngest guests (except the 3-year-old, but he drew us pictures for the fridge!). It’s the little things in life, make sure that you’re sending thank you notes, make sure you do your follow-up, make sure when someone takes time out of their schedule to help you that you are grateful for it and don’t take it for granted.
